Cut-out is fitted at the location where temperature is to be sensed. When the surrounding temperature rises, the cut-out heats up and its internal mechanism operates at pre- set trip temperature thereby opening its contacts and interrupting the current supply. When the equipment cools, the cut-out resets automatically, thereby restoring the supply.
